Ribbon Cutting for Michigan's First 3D Printed Home
Now that Michigan's first 3d printed home is complete and for sale, we want to celebrate with you! This ribbon cutting will feature speakers from the community highlighting the importance of robotics and automation in homebuilding and provide a rare opportunity for the community to see a 3D-printed home!
Jeremy Potter will host and speak about the flaws of homebuilding and homeownership as a member of the Islandview community.
A local student will speak about what 3D printing means to them and why they value opportunities to use that skill.
Jason Cole, leader of the Michigan Minority Contractors Association, will speak on behalf of contractors who are excited about technology in homebuilding.
Pastor Barry Randolph from Church of the Messiah will speak about how the cost of living is about more than just rent and that more energy efficient homes of this quality are necessary.
Evelyn Woodman, Co-Founder of Citizen Robotics, will close out the ceremony by speaking about the Citizen Robotics mission.
Robot High Five!
Presented by the team responsible for Detroit’s first 3D-printed home, visitors are invited to experience the marvel that is 3D printing at a large scale! Citizen Robotics fosters the adoption of robotics and automation in home building in order to provide affordable, sustainable housing and ease the worker shortage. At this event vistors will engage with the team and discover how they transform design dreams into reality through 3D printing.
For the first hour, watch us print!
At 7pm, hear from the Citizen Robotics team about our mission, projects, and the affordable housing crisis.
Then enjoy the night! There will be a taco truck, drinks, and a fire blazing in our back alley.
The House that Robot Built
Tour Michigan's first 3D-printed home and learn about its construction with Citizen Robotics' resident robot tamer.
Hear our Lab Manager Fernando Bales speak about the process of building the first 3d printed home in the Midwest at 6:30pm and 7:30pm.
Enjoy light drinks and snacks as you meet the team responsible for Michigan’s first 3d printed home.
VIP Look at Michigan's First 3d Printed Home

Wall Printing Ceremony
This wall printing ceremony is our version of a groundbreaking, a way to celebrate the start of construction for this exciting project! We’re thrilled to be starting this long-awaited build, and we can’t wait to see you there!
To begin, we’ll hear from Citizen Robotics Founder Tom Woodman, the architect of the project Bryan Cook, and Tonya Joy of MSHDA. They’ll discuss the intent behind the project, our mission, and the future of innovation in homebuilding. We’ll then start to print the very first walls of Detroit’s first 3d printed home.
Detroit Robot Party
Detroit Robot Party will showcase the work of various designers that have been working with Citizen Robotics. These works will include benches, planters, tables, wall segments from Detroit’s first 3d printed house, and more. Our party will be a way to meet local leaders in digital fabrication and other creatives, learn about 3d concrete printing (3dcp), and above all have fun! A selection of our team, collaborators, and advisors will discuss their visions for 3dcp, followed by an evening of drinks, music, and mingling.
Arrive early to see us print live! We’ll be printing permeable pavers for the first hour of the event.
After a brief introduction from Citizen Robotics Founder Tom Woodman, Zackery Belanger will give a brief talk about designing for acoustic performance in front of our latest textured feature wall. Our Lab Manager, Fernando Bales, will discuss our 3d printing process, giving you an inside look at our work.
For the rest of the evening, we’ll be showing off our printed works, having a drink, and getting to know all of you!
